Church Conference

Each year, the church budget is voted upon, officers are elected, and reports are given during the annual Church Conference. If it is called a charge conference only elected officers can vote.  With it being called a church conference all church members can vote.  This year the church conference will be held Sunday, November 16 around 1:00 P.M.  We will have refreshments after the 10:45 A.M. worship service that day.  Because of that, we might be able to begin the conference a little before 1:00 P.M.

United Methodist Men

The United Methodist Men have been helping to build a Habitat for Humanity Home in Nelson County. Men from the Rodes Church family have been building the front and back porches. The men’s group has purchased food which is available for needy families. Also the men have been collecting money to support missionary Clara Biswas. Any man is invited to join us on the third Tuesday of each month, 7:30 P.M. in the church library. After the meeting, there is a time of refreshments with the United Methodist Women.

Men’s Study

Tuesday mornings, men from the Rodes Church family and larger community meet for fellowship, food, and study.  The book of Revelation is being studied.  An audio presentation from David Jeremiah is our guide.  We begin with food and coffee at around 7:30 A.M.  We try to end a little before 9:00 A.M.

Food Drive

Each month food will be collected for the Nelson County Pantry. The pantry feeds about 200 families per month. There will be a container in the narthex and social hall for your donations. The focus this month is dry drink mixes.

Bible Study

The Wednesday morning Bible study taught by the pastor will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. in the church fellowship hall. The study will focus on "The Lord’s Prayer". Time is spent praying and studying. Bring a Bible with you.

2008- 2009 Academy

Charlottesville District of the United Methodist Church will host the 2008-2009 Academy.  The first session will be October 25 from 10:00 – 12:00 at Aldersgate UMC, Charlottesville.  The theme is “All Things New:  Radical Hospitality.”  There is no cost to this event.  Each congregation is invited to have five people attend.  The pastor will be attending.  Contact him if you would like to attend.

Miss a Sunday?
If you miss the Sunday morning worship service, you can listen to a tape of the service. Tapes are available for approximately a month after the service. Please contact Mark Garwood for more information at (540)456-6965.

Clara Mridula Biswas

Missionary Support : Clara Biswas

Clara Mridula Biswas is assigned as a community worker in Cambodia. She works to improve the lives of impoverished children in Phnom Penh, many of whom are homeless and live in the streets. Clara is ministering in a place that most of us will never travel to and ministering to a people we will probably never personally minister to. Clara was chosen by the Rodes United Methodist Men to be supported financially. The goal is to raise $1050 per year. Special offering envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church building or your can send your gifts to 8472 Rockfish Valley Highway, Afton, VA 22920. Please make your checks to the United Methodist Men and mark your gift "for missionary support." Thank you for your support of Clara through your prayers and finances.
