Vacation Bible School
2008

Aloha!  The surf's up at Outrigger Island where the Wave Riders(Children) and Island Guides(Adults)will learn to know, speak, and live God's truth.  This tropical adventure will help kids develop the STABILITY they need to become UNSHAKABLE in a world of SHIFTING sands.
We've scheduled JULY 7-11, 2008 for our adventures this summer.  Plans are for a morning session for children and an evening session for adults and youth.  Bible classes, music, mission study, games, and snacks will be available for all.  VBS will be located at Hebron and Rodes churches.
Many hours of study and preparations are invested by some 50 faculty and staff members.  Our budget includes $4000 for supplies and $1500 for T-shirts.  Our goal is for 150 children from our community to participate this summer.
PRE-REGISTRATION is set for SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 2008, from 10:30 to 12:30 at Hebron Church.  Forms will also be available in communtiy churches. More information will be available soon....Contact HBC (540-456-6863) or RodesUMC (540-456-6484).
We never have enough help, so anyone interested in joining us for a rewarding week of activities is welcomed.  We want to express our gratitude to all the loyal helpers from years past, and we look forward to seeing you again!

Food Drive

Each month food will be collected for the Nelson County Pantry. The food focus of June is peanut butter. Of course other food items will be accepted. You can place your donations in the boxes located in the vestibule, fellowship hall, and Sunday school hallway.

Worship Services

An 8:15 A.M. worship service is held each Sunday morning. This service lasts for about 45 minutes. There is a sermon, prayer, and singing. After the service, refreshments are served in the fellowship hall.

Also, there is the 10:45 A.M. worship service. This service has a traditional style. You are invited to join us at either worship service or both services. Through the worship experience, you have the opportunity to learn more about God and relate to God through song, sermon, and prayer.

Bible Study

The Wednesday morning Bible study is studying some of the Parables of Jesus, using the book "Parables of Jesus" by Ellsworth Kalas as a guide. The study is from 10-11am in the church fellowship hall. The parables that will be studied include: Matthew 7:24-27, Mark 4:1-20, Luke 15:11-32, Matthew 13:31-32, Luke 10:25-37, Luke 18:1-8, Matthew 25:1-13, Luke 18:9-14, and Luke 19:11-26.

Miss a Sunday?
If you miss the Sunday morning worship service, you can listen to a tape of the service. Tapes are available for approximately a month after the service. Please contact Mark Garwood for more information at (540)456-6965.

Missionary Support : Clara Biswas

Clara Mridula Biswas is assigned as a community worker in Cambodia. She works to improve the lives of impoverished children in Phnom Penh, many of whom are homeless and live in the streets. Clara is ministering in a place that most of us will never travel to and ministering to a people we will probably never personally minister to. Clara was chosen by the Rodes United Methodist Men to be supported financially. The goal is to raise $1050 per year. Special offering envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church building or your can send your gifts to 8472 Rockfish Valley Highway, Afton, VA 22920. Please make your checks to the United Methodist Men and mark your gift "for missionary support." Thank you for your support of Clara through your prayers and finances.
