El Buen Pastor UMC's (San Marcos,TX) Ministry to Undocumented Aliens in Wimberly, TX |
Rev. Tony Silva, pastor of El Buen Pastor in San Marcos, TX, and members of his congregation
team up with First United Methodist Church in the Hill Country city
of Wimberly, TX to minister to undocumented aliens working as day laborers. Most Saturday mornings Pastor Tony and others meet up with the men, and a very few women, to provide them breakfast tacos, coffee and juice as well as clothing and other items. Recently many items that were generously provided by the Wisconsin Conference's annual In-Gathering made their way to the eager hands in Wimberly. The day laborers work to send money back to their families in Mexico and South and Central America, and live hand-to-mouth and often without the basic necessities and protection enjoyed throughout the United States. Pastor Tony seeks to make their lives a litle more comfortable and less dangerous while ministering to their spiritual needs. |
