Renton First United Methodist Church

Methodist Church Groups

Renton First and the United Methodist Church have many organizations for members to join for service, fellowship and support. These organizations are focused on church issues and concerns.

  • United Methodist Men: UMM is an organization intended to provide the men of the church an opportunity for fellowship, food and service. We are associated with the National Organization of United Methodist Men.
  • United Methodist Women: The UMW meets several times during the year with programs of varied intrests for all women of the Church. A retreat is often part of the year's lineup.
  • United Methodist Youth: Youth from 6th through 12th grade gather weekly for support, fun and fellowship. Please click her for more information about our Youth program.
  • Wesleyan Fellowship: Part of the UMW, Wesleyan Fellowship meets the third Monday at 6:00 pm at the Church for a potluck dinner followed by a business meeting and program. Programs range from Missions and Community Projects to just having fun. Contact Person: Barbara Levering (425)271-7412.
  • Minnows: This group gets together to alleviate some of the hardship for families of deceased by preparing food for funeral receptions.

Fellowship

Getting together for fun and fellowship is part of the Methodist tradition. Groups gather for study, mission work or just to share a good time.

  • Early Christians: Early Christians meet once a month and hold a lively discussion on a book of their choosing. The meetings are held in members' homes preceded by a Continental breakfast on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 am. Contact Person: Carol Goodner.
  • MUM's: Senior church members form the Mellowing United Methodist group known as MUM's. MUM's meet quarterly for fun, fellowship and service.
  • Saturday Supper Club: The Saturday Night Supper Society meets on the first Saturday night of each month except July and August. The planned pot-luck suppers are followed by lively discussion on such topics as confirmation, poetry, positive and negative educational experiences, the Seattle Peace Chorus trip to Chili, hobbies and Senior Services. Interested persons should contact Jo Anne Morris.
  • Gemini: A loosely organized social group that meets on the fourth Saturday evening of the month at the various members' homes. There is a pot-luck supper followed by a warm fellowship time together. The Gemini wants all to know that this group is open to anyone in the church.
  • Men's Softball: Members and friends play teams from other Renton churches during the summer. We have a winning tradition, and a lot of fun!
  • Bible Study Groups: Bible Study groups give people the opportunity to discuss the meaning of God's message in the Bible, and to share ideas on living out the gospel.
  • Prayer Groups: The power of prayer is proven to have healing qualities, both emotionally and physically. Church members share the power of prayer during worship services, and in prayer groups.
  • Music Groups: Sharing the joy of music is an important aspect of our church family. Our church is proud to offer a wide variety of music programs.
  • Sunday School: Adults are encouraged to continue their Christian education. Several different classes are offered.

Aging with Grace

Older church members stay active and enjoy church life. Many life-long friendships are nurtured through church fellowship. Our church also reaches out to members who can no longer attend services on a regular basis.

  • MUM's: Senior church members form the Mellowing United Methodist group known as MUM's. MUM's meet regularly for fun, fellowship and service.
  • Older Adult Sunday: Once a year our older adult members plan and host an inspirational Sunday worship service.
  • Senior/Youth Luncheon: An inter-generational luncheon hosted by the church youth.
  • Caregivers: This group of dedicated volunteers meets the 3rd Thursday morning of each month to share with the Pastors what they have been doing to keep in touch with shut-ins, nursing home residents, and others who need some extra TLC. Members of the group make telephone contacts from time to time to help brighten the day of these special people.

Youth Activities and Fellowship

Young people are our future, and we are dedicated to providing them with the love and emotional support they will need to become tomorrow's leaders. We welcome their energy and ideas, and offer activities that provide moral support, faith development and fun, wholesome entertainment.
