E-news adendum special appeal

With the economy struggling and the church struggling to make budget one might think that the fall generosity campaign is doomed to failure. you could, but you would be wrong.

With 51 out of 62 pledges reporting I can tell you that:

20 pledges increased and only 2 have decreased for a net increase of $5,826
5 people who gave but did not pledge last year pledged!
2 families who have no giving record pledged
There are still 11 pledges outstanding.
Total pledges. . .drum roll please. . .
$86,586

that's only $5000 short of last year's total pledging - with 11 pledges to go!

The board passed a budget that holds the line at about 1% growth!

That all sounds very good, and it is! But right now we are behind. Behind enough to be concerned. Even with a $3000 gift in hand, we need $10,000 to finish paying apportionments.

Now, take all those numbers, set them aside and look inside yourself. am I doing the best I can. If you are, bless you. If not, maybe you can offer a special catch up gift.

We will be OK, because God is good. All the time!

You don't have your Christmas shopping done yet?
Let me help.
Give a gift to your favorite charity and give the recipient a certificate or card describing the work that the charity does. Here are some of my favorites.
Of course your local church if always accepting gifts

Some of these will even send the acknowledgement to your selected recipient.
Merry Christmas!!

  Ministerial Education Fund
God “handed out gifts of apostle, prophet, evangelist, and pastor-teacher to train Christ’s followers in skilled servant work, working within Christ’s body, the church.” (Ephesians 4:11-12, The Message)
The purpose of the Ministerial Education Fund apportionment is to enable the Church to recruit and educate ordained and licensed ministers and to equip the annual conferences to meet increased demands for quality leadership. The MEF is nurtured and funded by United Methodists to provide vitally needed funds for the support of 13 United Methodist seminaries. MEF dollars are critically important to the life and mission of our United Methodist seminaries. For most of these schools, the church’s MEF disbursement accounts for approximately 12 to 20 percent of their annual budget.
“I’m very grateful because usually minority students don’t get the opportunity to become involved in the life of seminary because they are working full-time jobs and going to school just part-time. MEF opens the door for students like me to share our talents and gifts.”
- Jennifer Battiest
Encourage your local church to pay 100 percent of the Ministerial Education Fund apportionment. Pastors and teachers, evangelists and missionaries, chaplains and lay leaders are depending on your support. Indeed, the very future of The United Methodist Church depends on it too!
Thank you for supporting the Ministerial Education Fund!
For more information on Ministerial Education Fundscholarships and loans, please contact the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
