Quéssua Mission is located in an area possessing great agricultural potential, and was known in the 20th Century for the abundance of food produced for both students, mission staff and even visitors. The mission property acquired during colonial times is vast—approximately 10,000 acres. Fruit tree plantings that were numerous across the property have disappeared and crop lands were turned into land mine fields during the civil war. The Agricultural Ministry is now gearing up to again provide for up to 100 orphans living at Quéssua and over 250 students so that they can study without spending time searching for or growing food. Vegetable gardens, grain fields and fruit tree plantings are being established in areas determined to be free of land mines. Small livestock production is being established and large animal production will be established as resources are made available. Agriculture production will double as a training laboratory for students to gain practical experience with recommended agricultural methods. Support is needed to purchase tools, seeds and construction materials. |
|
After years of war the United Methodist Church hopes to reopen production on Quéssua’s fertile lands. |
