Quéssua Mission—A Place of Hope in the Heart of Angola |
|
Carol and Tim Crawford are United Methodist Missionaries joining the efforts of Angolans and others already rebuilding Quéssua Mission located near Malanje, Angola. Carol teaches as part of the faculty of the Theological School and Tim is working to establish a food production program for the secondary school, seminary, and clinic participants. Quéssua Mission, located in Eastern Angola Conference near Malanje, was established more than 100 years ago by Bishop William Taylor and other early Methodist missionaries to Angola. After decades of leadership training and education, Quéssua was destroyed by the 27 years of civil war in Angola. Since the end of the war in 2002, the United Methodist Church of Angola has been working to rebuild the Quéssua Mission, building by building. At present, the church and school have been rebuilt, and plans are underway to restore the seminary and clinic. At the beginning of the 2007 school year, there were 175 students enrolled at the Quéssua Secondary School, and 85 theology students.
