THE HISTORY OF QUAKER ROAD CHURCH.

By 1842 rev. O.C Payne had gathered a flock of fifty people and so obtained permission to start the first Methodist Protestant Church in the Niagara area of NewYork State. It was a wooden building on the site of the present Church. This first Church burned down in 1872.

Rev. Alonzo M. Woodward helped design and build the present brick Church at a cost of $ 2,500.00. In 1877 a parsonage was built next to the Church at a cost of $ 1,100.00, while Rev. H.N. Becker was pastor. A. sunday school room and small kitchen were added in 1912 when Rev. P.O. Wildey was in Charge.

1939 was the year the Methodist Protestant Church united with three other Methodist branches and became the Quaker Road Methodist Church.

1950 saw great changes in the building. Inside plumbing, electrical fixtures and a larger kitchen made a great improvement. A lighted bulletin board on the front lawn did much to advertize the Church.

In 1970 the little Church again changed its name and became the Quaker Road United Methodist Church.

It was a sad, dark day in November, 1975 when the furniture, hymnals and possessions were given away preparatory to closing the doors permanently. This came about as result of the congregation rejecting False teaching from the pulpit. But in 1976 Priscilla Wolff and a small group of faithfuls re-opened the Church under her leadership for Summer services. The Church continued to grow and repairs were made, Also increadably most of the items given away were donated back to the Church !! This was all a indication of Gods promise for the future. In 1978 Rev. William Mckee returned as Pastor of Quaker Road; his home Church. for the next eight years he carried the program forward to the point of adding a large dining room and beautiful efficient Kitchen in 1984.
