Sunday School

Our Sunday school at Prospect United Methodist Church is very active. We have classes from age 3 to our 8th grade confirmation class. The children join in our worship service at 10:00 am until Children's Time where they gather together at the altar for a brief spiritual message.

Then it is off to Sunday school classes where they learn bible stories from the old and new testament. The curriculum incorporates the use of plays, crafts, and games to teach the children about God's Commandments. The life of Jesus and his teachings and what it means to be a Christian. It also shows the children how to apply these values to lives everyday.

Some of our annual events include:

  • Welcome Back Rally and Teacher Dedication in September.
  • In December we have a family advent workshop where wreaths and crafts are made to decorate our church and our homes as we wait for the celebration of Jesus' birth. Our annual Christmas Pageant is always the highlight of our Christmas season. The costumes are handmade by the students and their teachers and children of all ages join together to retell the Good News of our Savior's Birth through drama and music.
  • We run an evening Lenten Program of crafts and games which meets once a week during the Adult Services. This program focuses on the teachings of Jesus and Holy Week.
  • We have Pretzel Sunday on the 4th Sunday of Lent where we all join in making pretzels and prayers to share with the congregation at the end of Sunday service.
  • We hold a Palm Sunday Processional were the students carry handmade banners and wave palms to welcome Jesus into our church.
  • On Easter Sunday the children celebrate the resurrection of our Savior with their families during the worship service. Easter packets are handed our to the younger children who attend this service.
  • Mother's Day gifts are made by the students and presented by the students on Mother's Day to all the Mothers who attend that Sunday service.
  • We end our Sunday School year in May with our Children's Day Program. During this program the Sunday service is done by the Children. Here every child gets a chance to add his own special touch to the worship service.
  • Through our the year our children help to lift the spirits of those in need by making cards of encouragement, caroling to the homebound, raising money to by food for our food pantry, and making vases for the flowers we take to our homebound members. Our children are a loving and caring part of our Prospect Church Family.
