The purpose of this
award is to grant financial aid to a deserving applicant who has been active in Prospect
United Methodist Church and who has been accepted by an institution for further education. Application Procedure To be considered for a Scholarship applicants must: 1) Applications must be filled out completely. Only completed applications are accepted. 2) A completed one page Essay submitted with application. On a separate paper, printed clearly or typed, in 300 words or less (at least one page), on a topic, which changes yearly. 3) One letter of recommendation from a teacher or employee must accompany application. 4) The applications will be available during March of each year. 4) The application, essay and recommendation must be submitted no later than May 1st, to Prospect United Methodist Church office, 99 Church Street, Bristol, CT 06010, Attention: Barbara Fasci, Scholarship Committee Chairperson. Eligibility 1) Applicants are able to receive scholarships from the Prospect United Methodist up to a total of 2 years. 2 ) Not every applicant is guaranteed a scholarship. 3) Scholarships will be awarded on Children's Day. If awarded, you or a representative must attend to accept the scholarship on the day awarded. Any unclaimed scholarships will be returned to the Scholarship Fund. Criteria Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria: 1) Church Activities 2) Scholastic ability 3) Financial need 4) Essay Content 5) First time applicant The Scholarship committee meets several times during the year. Some of their fund raisers include: 1) Annual grinder sale and Super Bowl Sunday grinder sale. 2) Bake sale 3) Bakeless Bake sale In addition to our yearly scholarships, two Special Scholarships are given yearly to the highest graded applicant in the names of: 1) Elizabeth Seery Scholarship 2) Dolores Barker Award |
