The church family at Priceville United Methodist Church is
a diverse group of people. Some of us are young. Some of us are old. Some
are liberal. Some conservative. Some of us were born and raised in this
community. Others of us have come here from many other places. We are bound
together in one common belief. Our common belief is that Jesus, the Son
of God, is the Savior of the world who lived, died and lived again to show
the world how much God loves us all.
We welcome people who share our views, or who are struggling to decide what they believe. If you’re not quite sure what you believe, we’ll be glad to tell you why we believe as we do. Someone once told me that what they like about the United Methodist Church is that “You aren’t required to check your brain at the door.” We welcome thinkers and questioners. We give people time and space to seek the truth. We want to be friends with those who don’t share our beliefs, and yet we want to share our beliefs with the world.
I’ve heard people of other churches accuse the United Methodist Church of having no doctrine. We have a doctrine, some very basic things that we believe, but we do not try to indoctrinate people. A statement The United Methodist Church has made very publicly is that “Our Hearts, Our Minds and Our Doors are Open.” We hope that those seeking truth and those seeking God will visit us.
On the first Sunday of each month we receive Holy Communion. We serve an open table, open to all persons who believe that Jesus is Savior and Lord. On all Sundays we have a traditional service of worship. We use the Apostle’s Creed to remind us of what we believe. We use the Lord’s prayer because Jesus told His disciples that this was how they should pray. We sing old and new hymns and praise songs. While our worship is traditional, we do seek to give praise and glory to God through it, and we find that that is always contemporary.
On the Fourth Sunday of each month we have a contemporary service of praise. It is at 6:00 in the evening. This service is mostly about singing God’s praises, and praying together, there is a brief message, but it’s not a preaching service.
We are a growing family of faith and we hope that all of us are growing in our faith. If you’d like to visit us, you’ll find a place of welcome. We look forward to seeing you. We’ll be here on Sunday Mornings, Sunday School starts at 9:30 and Morning Worship at 10:30. On the fourth Sunday we’ll be here Sunday evening at 6:00. If you have questions about what goes on here, or about what’s going on with you, please feel free to call me, I’ll try to help you find the answers.
May the Lord add His blessing to your life,
Reverend Charles Brown (Brother Charlie)
