United Methodist Women On-Line

A vital group within Portland United Methodist Church is our United Methodist Women.  The primary focus is on missions, with emphasis both on home missions and overseas work.  The women give practical assistance, both financial and otherwise, to various mission ministries.

Another important ministry carried out by our UMW is that of serving practical needs within the local church.  The circle groups arrange help with meals for weddings, funerals, banquets, and any other special occasion.  Regular assistance is given at church potlucks and fellowship times.

The general UMW meets on the first Thursday of each month.  All women are welcome to come and share.

Women's Fellowship

The PUMC Women's Fellowship was organized in September 2008, to provide charitable assistance through the gifts and talents of many women by sewing, stamping, crocheting, and knitting items needed in hospitals, assisted living homes, and for wounded military personnel.

The meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of the month in the Esther Room in the lower level of the Portland United Methodist Church.  All women of the community are welcome whether they are members of the church or not.

Current and on-going projects include "Angel Gowns" and flannel buntings for deceased infants, crocheted and knitted caps for hospital newborns, sewed or crocheted lap robes for those confined to wheel chairs, gift bag items, and new Chrismon ornaments for the PUMC tree.  Gift bag items were recently collected for those in assisted living residences.  These gift bags will be distributed in the fall and spring.

If you are interested in joining the group, please contact the church office at 517-647-4649 for more information and patterns.  Thank you!
