Insurance For the Contents of the Parsonage

The local church shall provide insurance on a church owned parsonage as part of their broad coverage for church buildings. However, clergy are responsible for securing a "Contents Policy" for their personal property, and for protection of liabilities in the event of litigation.

This insurance is similar to the "Homeowners Policy" puchased by homeowners. In fact, some insurance companies call this policy a "Homeowners Policy" even though it is for renters or people who live in parsonages. Other companies will call it "Contents Policy." What ever the insurance company calls this policy, it is something that clergy can ill afford to be without.

Please note: if pastors have items of unique value such as paintings, furs, jewelry, etc., they will need to have a special rider in the policy to cover these items.

The "Contents Policy" is transferable from parsonage to parsonage. It only needs to be renewed on its anniversary date with the insurer.
