Our church in the community

Here are some of the ministries of our church:

Worship:
Sunday worship is the central activity and work of our church. It is here that we gather as a church family to hear the word of God, to refresh our faith, and to recommit our lives to Christ’s care and service. On a typical Sunday morning approximately 120 of us gather for worship. The service involves a good deal of lay participation, often including a children’s choir, a praise choir, special music, lay speakers, and more. We call the first Sunday of every month “Family Sunday,” and invite children from grade 2 and up to remain in the sanctuary for worship and Communion. To make this a truly inclusive worship experience we work hard to be as creative as possible. .

Education:
We have over 40 children enrolled in Sunday School.  The children learn songs together and then split into their different classes. We are blessed to have so many young people, all of whom bring so much life, enthusiasm, and energy to our congregation.  Our summer Vacation Bible School program testifies to the lively and contagious spirit that the children add to our family.
Education continues for adults as well.  We have a Sunday morning men’s bible study and a Tuesday morning prayer group in addition to a healthy mix of short-term classes on spiritual growth. These classes offer nice opportunities for us to grow in faith and learn more about one another in casual and informal settings.

Outreach:
We host and staff the Pleasant Valley Food Bank, which cares for families in Barkhamsted and New Hartford. Our United Methodist Women’s group is very active in sponsoring a number of exciting missions throughout the year.  We host Alanon and Alcoholics Anonymous groups once a week in addition to a number of Brownie troops.  We are well known for our unique and tasty bean-hole suppers, which people from near and far enjoy four times a year. Our committees on evangelism and missions work hard to offer creative and important opportunities to share our faith in compassionate and loving ways.
