Jan and Steve Cochran

Jan was born in Tampa, Florida and has one sister and one brother. Her family moved to Bessemer when she was a junior in high school.
Steve was born in Bessemer and has three brothers and one sister. He attended the Bessemer Schools and was at Jess Lanier High School when he met Jan. They both were beginning their junior year. They met thru the introduction of Steve’s cousin and begin dating. They both worked during high school and bought their first home in Greenwood after graduation, and married the following May.
Steve has worked at Buffalo Rock/Pepsi Cola for 30 years this past August. Jan will be celebrating her 30 years with BellSouth (AT&T) this June.
Steve’s family attended Westside Baptist Church in Bessemer when he was growing up. Jan became a member after they began dating. They were married and had two children, a daughter (Maleah) and a son (Brent) raising them in the Baptist tradition. It has only been in the last eight years they left Westside and became members of Morgan United Methodist and then recently Pleasant Hill. They were looking for a spiritual church closer to home and a strong children’s program. They found both at Pleasant Hill.
Their daughter Maleah, has a six year old daughter, Kylie. Kylie attends church every Sunday with them. She is a wonderful child who has stolen the hearts of many of us at Pleasant Hill. Kylie likes everyone she has met at Pleasant Hill, but formed a special bond with Mr. Julian. When he was attending the same early service, she always came to where he was sitting to give him a big hug. She also remembered him with little gifts she made. They both seemed to have a love for “special rocks” and they would share them with each other.
Steve and Jan’s son, Brent, was in the Army and served in South Korea for two years. He is now out and living at home. He is currently employed with Prestige Paint. Brent spends his free time riding his ATV, Dirt Bike and fishing with friends (unless Kylie has other plans for him).
The family enjoys any activity that involves water. Steve’s parents have a place on the river where they have spent many weekends. Or mention the beach and everyone can be packed and in the car within five minutes. Every year they spend their vacation at the beach with Jan’s family and any others that tag along.
Steve has served as an usher at the early service. He and Jan are in the Praise and Outreach Sunday School Class. They stay pretty busy with their jobs and their family which includes Baron (Miniature Pincher) and Charmin (a special needs Kitten). Steve and Jan both have a warm, friendly personality and we are glad to have the Cochran Family as Living Stones at Pleasant Hill.
                                                                     -Jean Baswell

Text Box: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Thank you for coming to the 1st Annual
“Evening Under the Stars”.
I have heard from many of you how much you enjoyed the food, the fellowship, and especially the entertainment. Thanks to Bill Jeffries and the Joe Giatinna Orchestra, to Laura Jean McGhee for the wonderful food, to the Youth and Monica for their fine service, to Tonya Koll for taking care of the children, and to all of the volunteers from the Chancel Choir & Bell Choir for the many hours of planning, implementing, and cleaning. Our goal was to raise about $1,000 for the Music Department. We raised about three times that amount.
Thank You, Pleasant Hill UMC Family
Let’s do again next year.

Alan

Text Box: Youth News
We are kicking off a new program for our youth group called Servant Sundays. I am excited about this because it is completely student led and driven. The first Sunday of every month we will go out to eat after church. After lunch we come back and take part in a service project that has been planned by the youth. After we are done working the youth have planned a worship service that revolves around what we did that day. Isn’t that great!!! Our kick off Sunday will be this Sunday, April 1st. We will be picking up trash along Bell Hill Road. Please encourage your student to join us on this project.
I am trying to fill up spots on our summer trips. Please make note of our Middle School Mission trip June 8-10th. The cost is $50 and we will be going to Tennessee to do construction work. Before our return we will be rafting the Ocoee River. We are also going to the Beach June 22-25. The cost will be $75 for that trip. Our Senior High mission trip is July 8-13 and we have filled all of our slots. If you are interested is either of these trips please contact me as soon as you can.
Please remember our yard sale April 21st. This will be a big day for our church because there will also be a car wash and pancake breakfast being help by ASP. Please take time for some spring cleaning around your home and donate your treasures to this event. If you need help getting them to the church, please contact me.

Text Box: To the Congregation of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church

I would like to take a minute to thank each and everyone of you for your thoughts and prayers for Peyton and our family.
As I’m sure most of you know Peyton had a tumor the size of a baseball in her pelvis. We were told there was a slight chance it could be benign, but most likely it would have some malignancy and we would have to do chemo. Well miracles do happen because her tumor came back completely benign and had no maligrant cells. PRAISE THE LORD! We still have a couple more tests to make sure there are no more cancer cells, so I ask that you keep praying for Peyton. Pray these tests come back negative.
God has definately been on our side and blessed us with a miracle. The power of prayer is an amazing thing.
Thank you all for your support. If you would like to stay up to date on Peyton’s condition you can check out her story at:

Please sign the guestbook at the website so we know you visited.
                                   Love,
                                       Shan, Tara & Peyton Sheheane

Text Box: Fountain of Love Offering

Since 1961, The Fountain Of Love has met the needs of more than 5,000 residents in the care of Methodist Homes for the Aging - by supplementing their diminishing incomes and affording the dignity to remain in place and
providing a well deserved sense of peace and well-being.

The Methodist Homes Corporation serves God’s Older Children in 14 Senior Care Residences (Fair Haven being one) throughout Alabama and Northwest
Florida. Each year more and more residents request financial assistance.

We, the Pleasant Hill Church Family, have an opportunity to help keep the Fountain Of Love Flowing.

I ask that you pray for the mission work done by this organization and about making a gift during this Lent Season. What a blessing you will be to these residents by your contribution to help continue this amazing mission work. You may place your check in the offering plate any time through Sunday, April 29. We will send a check to the Fountain of Love for our total church gift in May. Please mark in the "For Line" of your check that is for the Fountain of Love. Checks should be made payable to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church (PHUMC).

Praising God for your support of all our mission work,
Delbra Rivers
