Ongoing Ministries

Food Donations for families in need may be left in the marked box in the vestibule of the church. The food donated is distributed to families in the local area. Canned and boxed food may be left at any time. Donations of perishable items (like produce) are accepted with advance notice (so that delivery can be timed with freshness.)

Beacon House is a local men's shelter run by The Frederick Rescue Mission. They provide food and shelter coupled with spiritual training and Life skills training to those in need. They are dedicated to putting the love of Christ into action in every area of service. Pleasant Grove is glad to assist in their ministry by serving meals at the shelter. Dates and times are posted in the newsletter.

Pennies for Potatoes turns your pennies (and dimes and nickels!) into potatoes to fee hungry boys and girls.. The Potato Project, one of the hunger ministries of the Society of St. Andrew, gleans potatoes from fields that would otherwise be discarded and distributes this nutritious food to the poor and hungry of our nation. A mere 4 pennies covers the cost of a pound of potatoes for a family in need. Pennies are collected on the second Sunday of each month during Sunday School. There is also container is in the vestibule for collecting your donation.

Missionary Miguel Mairena is currently serving in Managua, Nicaragua with UVINIM. Miguel says, "I work with the war disabled, collectives, cooperatives, and rural schools. In each disabled person, cooperative member, school child, I see myself reflected, struggling to survive and with the hope to build the reign of God on the earth where we have been designated to live... I believe God has called me to this mission. The vineyard is large and the workers are few; the work is much, but the hope of seeing a better world is the goal that the Lord left to us." Miguel himself grew up in a large, poor family in Nicaragua. Miguel's wife Nan is also a missionary. Pleasant Grove is pleased to off prayers and financial support to this missionary family.
