DISCIPLE I

"Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study"

During the course of thirty-four weeks, DISCIPLE I groups will move through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem.

Underlying the development of DISCIPLE is the assumption that people are hungry for the Word of God, for fellowship in prayer and study, and for a sense of appropriate ministry as baptized, believing, committed Christians. Therefore, the purpose of DISCIPLE is to develop strong Christian leaders through regular in-depth study of Scripture. Disciple making and Christian nurturing are its goals. Some people will become teachers of DISCIPLE; all persons in the study will be guided into servanthood and ministry. Participants will become better Sunday School teachers, better parents, better youth and adult choir members, better officers in the church, better UMYF members because their ministry will be inspired as well as informed.

Meeting times are Monday Evenings from 7:00 - to 9:00

DISCIPLE II

"Into The Word Into The World"

"Into The Word Into The World" is the second study in the DISCIPLE program and is prepared for youth and adults who have graduated from DISCIPLE I "Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study."  This thirty-two week study selects specific portions of Scripture and goes deeper into them as we concentrate on four books; Genesis, Exodus and Luke and Acts.

Into The Word Into The World

It continues the philosophy and assumptions, goals and ideals of the DISCIPLE program. It continues to call clergy and laity to serious, disciplines study that will result in development of biblically nourished servant-leaders.

DISCIPLE III

"Remember Who You Are"

" Remember Who You Are" is the third study in the DISCIPLE  program series and is available to graduates of DISCIPLE I. Resident in the title is the driving idea in this study - the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. Several themes weave their way through the study - the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision; and the place of community. It concentrates on the Old Testament prophets and the letters of Paul. The Prophets and Paul are continually calling their hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a "Set Apart" people.

"Remember Who You Are"

Meeting Times are Monday Evenings from 7:00 - to - 9:00

DISCIPLE IV   "Under The Tree of Life"

The Hebrew version of what Christians call the Old Testament has three divisions: Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings. The fourth part of Disciple concentrates on the Writings of the Old Testament, plus some New Testament scriptures. Emphasis on Psalms as Israel's hymnbook and prayer book leads naturally to an emphasis on worship in the study. The "under" in "Under The Tree of life" is meant to convey invitation, welcome, sheltering, security, rest - home at last. This thirty-two week study continues the philosophy and assumptions, goals and ideals of the Disciple program. It continues to call us to serious, disciplined Bible study that will result in development of biblically nourished servant-leaders.

Meeting times are Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00

Disciple V   Jesus and The Gospels

Jesus in the Gospels is the first of second-generation Disciple studies which are text-based with attention given to Old and New Testament readings and looks more closely at the Gospel texts. It focuses on the portraits of Jesus found in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This study looks at the way in which each Gospel writer presents events and teachings and at the picture of Jesus that emerges in each Gospel.

Meeting times are Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00

Companions in Christ: The Way of Grace:

The Way of Grace is a short-term resource designed to help small group explore and experience more deeply the grace of God at work within common patterns of growth and change in the Christian journey. Grace predominates in each encounter, even as it does in our personal journey of faith in company with Christ. The stories from John's Gospel provide a way for group members to connect the biblical witness with their own experiences of grace.
