Reverend Linda C. Prendergast, M.Div., M.A. - Pastor
Born to parents who wanted nothing to do with religion, Linda began asking to be dropped off at the nearest church on Sunday mornings at the age of 4. She served as an inner city school teacher in both Detroit and Pontiac, Michigan. As a young mother, Linda founded The Cesarean Birth Council to give support and education to parents anticipating cesarean births, but the Council quickly developed into an international organization that helped change hospital policies to allow dads in delivery rooms and emphasized the miracle of birth, no matter the mode of delivery. Linda observed over 400 cesarean births in the early and mid ‘70’s, taught prenatal cesarean classes, and became credentialed by the State of California as a continuing education provider for doctors and nurses, being brought into hospitals for continuing staff education and traveling on a large scale medical conference speaking circuit.
Linda returned to school and earned her M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Pastoral Counseling. She began a successful private practice and continued to work on a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She also became the Protestant/Non-Denominational Premarital Counselor for Stanford University Memorial Chapel, held premarital workshops for Los Altos UMC, did church conflict resolution work, worked with cancer patients, death and dying, and was the psychologist on the Diabetes Treatment Center Team at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City.
Cancer led Linda to discontinue her Ph.D. work and go to seminary, and she has since served Oroville UMC and presently Pinole UMC. She serves on the California-Nevada Annual Conference UMC Conflict Transformation Team, the Bay View District Committee on Ordination, and the Bay View District Committee on Clergy Connection.
