Confirmation Classes
In the same way that athletes, musicians, and others need to practice what they do in order to do it well, Christians also need to “practice” their faith on a regular basis. The Confirmation process at Pierre First United Methodist Church is a 2-year journey for 7th - and 8th -grade students. Students are required to be involved regularly in FUMC Confirmation classes, meetings, and youth groups as well as in worship services to help them accomplish the following:
  1. Grow in their relationship with God
  2. Learn how to “practice” their Christian faith
  3. Prepare to become a member of the church
Weekly FUMC Confirmation classes meet on Sunday mornings 9:45–10:45 am in rooms behind the church balcony. These classes use the Claim the Name curriculum. As described on the Claim the Name web site: “Confirmation in
The United Methodist Church is a time of intentional preparation, leading to the first public profession of faith. During this time young persons "make firm" what has gone before: God's prevenient grace, baptism, the teaching and witness of parents and other persons of faith, the teachings and life together in the church, the student's own growing faith. Youth are invited to claim for themselves the name Christian and the name United Methodist.
Confirmation is a significant step in the journey of faith.”
