HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BIKE RIDE

Pastor Howard Grinager will be riding this year in the Habitat for Humanity Bike Ride, starting north of St. Cloud, MN. First UMC plans to help with contributions for the ride, and Howard mentioned that he would like all monetary gifts designated to Oahe Habitat for Humanity. The ride will be July 15th through July 20th. Beginning in June, an article will be printed for the Bulletins and Messenger, asking all of you for support and help in making this project a success. Look for further information beginning in June. You can also access www.Habitat500.org to learn more about the upcoming ride and to view a map of the route. To date, 116 people are registered for this ride.

The Missions Committee, on behalf of First UMC is thankful to all who participated in Preparing and Serving the Banquet at SE United Methodist Church on May 2nd.   We thank everyone for their donations of cash (over $400); cookies and bars, and time spent in serving and cleaning up after the Banquet itself. Scalloped potatoes and ham, green beans, dinner rolls, bars and cookies were served to a large crowd of 253 people and 84 carry-outs were made up. The total cost of supplies for the meal was $341.50. Without the help of all of you, this large meal could not have been served, and we appreciate your participation.

SEWING KITS ARE NEEDED

Items for Sewing Kits are requested, these kits to be sent to the Brown & Sager distribution center following the September Ingathering in Sioux Falls. Sewing kits containing all necessary items for a new dress, blouses or children’s clothing are warmly welcomed by UMCOR for distribution to the needy. These kits contain: 3 continuous yards of fabric, cotton or cotton blend only (no heavy duty material, please). 1 pair fabric scissors; 1 pkg. hand needles in original pkg. only; 1 spool matching thread; 5-8 buttons (not loose, on cards or fastened together), 1 1-gallon sealable bag only. Wrap notions in fabric, place in plastic bag and seal. All items must be new. Do not wash the fabric and be sure to have only 3 yards of fabric in a kit. Last year we gave out 28 kits from this church. Getting a kit like this enables a woman to either sew for her family or herself, or make garments for sale to others, which helps her financial status. Our committee views these kits as being very important. If you do not wish to provide the kit items in their entirety, please feel free to bring selected items which will be included in kits. Thank you in advance!

Weekly UMCOR Info Available
Each week UMCOR puts out a “Hotline” describing current needs and some of the things being done to help.  Since the information is constantly changing, you will want to look at it often.  If you like can receive the Hotline each week in your email.  To subscribe send a blank email to: join-umcor-hotline@list.gbgm-umc.org
