Upcoming Worship Themes

October 19, Glenn Mower will be our Guest Speaker; Laity Sunday

October 26,  “The Art of Being Rooted,” Psalm 1 and Matthew 22:34-46. Fang Peichun, a Chinese artist, teaches that there’s beauty in the roots of a tree. If that is true, then being rooted in a relationship with God will yield a masterpiece!

November 2, All Saints Sunday, “Light Works,” Deuteronomy 6:1-9 and Mark 12:28-34.  Only after the light of a distant star travels astronomical distances do we notice its beauty. One of the most dazzling rays of light that has guided faith communities from generation to generation has been “The Great Commandment,” known within the Jewish faith as The Shema, and recited by Jesus in the Gospel. We will honor that “light” and the way it “works” as we remember those loved ones who have died since the 2007 All Saints Sunday.

November 9, 26th Sunday after Pentecost & Benevolence Sunday, “License-Plate Christianity,” Matthew 25:31-46 & Ephesians 1:15-23. If you had to express your faith in one or two words, what would you say? Don’t feel bad! The apostle Paul could not do it either. We will look at one of the longest sentences Paul wrote as he tried to express the depth and width of God’s power.

November 16, 27th Sunday after Pentecost & Mission Sunday, Barton Browning will be our guest speaker. His message will contain reflections of the congregation-sponsored trip in October to the United Nations seminar titled, “Peace and Justice Issues in Eastern Europe Following the Fall of Communism.” The topic will be discussed in the Adult Sunday School class that meets in the Church Parlor at 10:35 a.m.

November 23, Thanksgiving Sunday, Love Feast, This is our congregation’s annual informal worship experience held in the Prism. Muffins, fruit, and juice and other breakfast beverages will begin this hour in which we honor examples of God’s faithfulness. If you are interested in sharing a story, reading a poem, playing a musical instrument or singing a song, please contact Pastor Lee at 238-2657 or pfvumc@juno.com. What a wonderful way to begin Thanksgiving week!

November 30, 1st Sunday of Advent & Holy Communion. “The Last Lecture,” Mark 13:24-36. Just before his death, Jesus delivers the lecture of a lifetime, reminding his followers of what really matters. This will be a preface for the Advent season.
