On August 27, 1883 the Board of Missions voted to "establish a mission between Blount's Creek and the Cape Fear River in the town of Fayetteville to be known as Campbellton Mission." On February 8, 1886 under the leadership of inaugural Pastor J.J. Grigg a church was organized and the first church building was completed. In 1887 the mission was placed under the guidance of Hay Street Church, by 1893 the little church at Campbellton had gained considerable momentum with over 125 members on both the Church and Sunday School rolls. On June 23, 1911 the Campbellton property was sold and the Church building was moved to its present location on Person Street, the house next door was purchased and used as a parsonage. During a five year period beginning in 1948 several renovations were completed including the addition of a new education building, a brick exterior, and new furnishings. At the 1952 session of Conference, after several years as a charge church, Calvery and Victory Churches were removed making a station appointment of Person Street Church.

For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.
