Spiritual Life Retreats are offered as a way for United Methodist Women to grow in their love of God and in understanding their own spiritual journey. Our study for this year's spiritual life retreats will be "Unknown Women of the Bible." Our leader is Gertrude B. Brown, pastor of Zion (Sharptown) Charge - Mt. Nebo, John Wesley Churches of the Salisbury District. She is married to Harry Brown, Jr., and has five children and 12 grandchildren. She is a graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary, Wor Wic College, Pocomoke Bible Institute, and has attended UMES. Mrs. Brown has been very active in various areas of the church and community. She has served in the capacity of mentoring for aspiring new pastors, has been a member and secretary for the District Committee on Ministry, and has been a member of the Apportionment Review Committee. Mrs. Brown is also active in the Local Ministerial Association and the Wicomico County Board of Education Human Relations Advisory Council. She has worked in Job Development in Somerset County Rehabilitation in Crisfield , Md., from 1967-1982, and as a Social Worker in the Somerset County Headstart program in Crisfield, Md., from 1982-1985. Mrs. Brown currently resides in Salisbury, Md., with her husband Harry Brown, Jr.
The first retreat is to be held on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at Centennial UMC in Smyrna, DE. The time is from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The cost is $15.00 (lunch is included). The second retreat is to be held from on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at St. Matthews in Box Iron, MD. The time is from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The cost is $15.00 (lunch is included).
