2002 Assembly-UMW "Sing A New Song"8/26/01 It is now time to plan for the 2002 Assembly to be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA, from Thursday, April 25th to Sunday, April 28, 2002. The theme, “Sing A New Song,” reflects biblical references that include Psalms 40:3, Psalms 137:1-4, Luke 1: 46-55, and Colossians 3:16. We will sing songs of faith, hope, struggle, love, justice, and joy, as we celebrate God’s mission and recommit to the purpose of United Methodist Women. The Peninsula-Delaware Conference has blocked rooms at the Clarion Suites, which is near the Convention Center, with shuttle service provided to and from the hotel and the Center. The room reservation deadline is December 15, 2001. Cost for a room is $112. (The room has two double sized beds and holds up to 4 people.) If you would like to attend, contact the Conference President, Arelela Cray. She will send you an intention form to fill out. This information will then be forwarded to the Assembly Office by the Conference President. The Assembly Business Office will send out registration packets to the attendees. The Assembly registration fee is $125.00. The deadline for all registrations, the Assembly and the Hotel, is February 28, 2002. Refunds for early cancellation will be made in accordance with the Assembly Business Office policy. Reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Travel arrangement have also been made to get attendees to Philadelphia by bus. The Tidewater/Dorsey Motor Coach Companies will be transporting women from our conference to the Assembly on April 25, and returning on April 28, 2002. The pick-up points will be: K-Mart in Cambridge, leaving at 9:00 AM; Wards parking lot at the Center Mall in Salisbury, leaving at 9:45 AM; Sears front parking lot at the Dover Mall, leaving at 11:15 AM; Aldersgate UMC parking lot in Wilmington, leaving at 12:15 PM. The cost for the round trip bus fare is $40.00. A deposit of $20.00 is due before or by November 24, 2001, with the balance of $20.00 due before or by March 15, 2002. Checks should be made payable to Peninsula-Delaware Conference UMW and sent to Conference President Arelela Cray at the address listed on the Intention Form. Only a 50% refund for the bus trip will be made after March 15, 2002. We hope to have an inclusive representation of cultures, races, socio-economic and age levels at Assembly. In particular, we desire to have at least two teen women (ages 13-17) and at least two college/university women (ages 18—22) attending from our conference. See you there!
