Mission Endeavors

*1, 4, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14 & 15 are the numbers with an asterisk.

*1. Use the Prayer Calendar at each general meeting of the unit to pray for persons in mission and for our mission work with women, children and youth. Order from the Service Center, Stock #2818, $6.50.

2. At least one member of the unit (other than a conference or district officer) will attend the conference School of Christian Mission.

3.  At least two members (other than a conference or district officer) will attend the district or conference annual meeting.

*4. The unit will use two programs from the Program Book during the year. Order from the Service Center, Stock #2794, $3.50.

5. The unit will have at least one person join the United Methodist Women's Action Network to receive and respond to legislative information. To join, contact the Women's Division Washington Office, 100 Maryland Ave. NE, Box 56, Washington DC 20002.

6. Members shall write to five persons listed in the Prayer Calendar at least once a year.

*7. The unit, circle or subgroup will conduct at least one mission study a year. Contact your district or conference Mission Coordinator for Education & Interpretation to learn what the studies are for each year.

*8. The unit will implement the Charter for Racial Justice Policies in at least one way during the year. Possibilities are:

Have members read books and articles about other races and cultures.

Sponsor an inter-ethnic event between two or more units.

Recruit women of color to be members and officers of the unit.

Write to elected representatives to support legislation affecting issues such as immigration, affirmative action, civil rights, programs for low-income persons, etc.

9.  The unit will co-sponsor, with the local church, a Children's Sabbath. This is a worship service highlighting the needs of children. For materials contact Children's Defense Fund, 25 E. St. NW, Wash. DC 20001.

*10. The unit will make and meet its pledge to mission.

11. The unit will be a Five Star unit, contributing to all five channels of undesignated giving.

*12. The unit will select a project from the Women's Division's Material Resources for Mission Catalog and will contribute the needed materials to the mission project. Order from the Service Center, Stock #2579, $3.50.

13. Each unit, circle or subgroup will include a Response Moment where an item from Response magazine will be lifted up as a way to tell the mission story. New World Outlook magazine provides another good way to tell the mission story.

*14. The unit will have at least two member subscribing to Response magazine. Order from the Service Center, $12 for a year's subscription. New World Outlook magazine is available at the Service Center -$15 for a year's subscription. a joint subscription of Response and New World Outlook is $25 for one year.

*15.  The unit will add at least two members to its roll.
