June 24 - We had a good week. Lisa met the second teacher she has this week. They did reading during their time together. She is reading a book for a reading test next week. She worked with the teacher she worked with last week. They did math and reading together. She is continuing to do spelling, vocabulary, reading, and sometimes math at home, and she is doing a special project to read about a president and write some facts about him in a notebook. She went back to the surgeon for a follow-up appointment. She had the sutures taken out. The incision is healing well. Lisa decided to get the other side of her head shaved to match the side she had surgery on--so she now has a crew cut/shaven head. She doesn't seem to mind. She doesn't need to wear her helmet anyone. She helped the Boy Scouts with a chicken BBQ today (Saturday). She stays busy at home and with outside activities, also with school and therapies. June 17 - Hi to all. Here is my update for this week. Lisa started "extended school year" (summer school) this week. She met one teacher on Tuesday. She will have two teachers--one on Wed for two hours and one on Thurs. for two hours. She worked on reading and math on Tuesday. I have been doing spelling, vocabulary, math, and some other things at home to add to her educational needs. She did well remembering the spelling and vocabulary words. The highlight of the week was her surgery on Wed. She had the bone piece replaced in her skull. She did well. She was a little sick to her stomach but didn't have much pain. She stayed over night and came home in the afternoon the next day. She didn't have any swelling until the second night. She woke up with a swollen and bruised left eye. She could hardly see. We put ice on it and it is a little better. Today was the Laurel Festival Parade (State Laurel Festival Celebration in Wellsboro). Lisa marched in the parade with the Middle School Band--carried the banner for the Band. They got new uniforms so she wore one. Thank you for your prayers and support. June 10 - Hi, another week. This week was a busy one since we worked on a summer schedule for Lisa and finished school for this year. I was sorry to see school end because Lisa has gained valuable information (both academic and social), and she had a great teacher and staff that worked with her. She will go to extended school year classes two days for two hours each week. Since she isn't able to get more hours of school, I will be doing a sort of home schooling so she gets more exposure to words, spelling, vocabulary, reading, etc. She continues with her therapies. In PT it was determined that her right and left strength are equal so she progressed to different exercises more for balance. She continues with speech--writing words, spelling, definitions, general information etc. And she continues with OT working with word relationships and learning new games that help her problem solve. Next week Lisa will be going to Geisinger. On Monday, she will do preadmission testing for surgery on Wednesday. Surgery will be to replace the piece of skull. Because of the appointments she will only have one day of classes. Continue to pray for Lisa--and thank you for all the faithful prayers and support each one has given. June 3 - Hi there, this is an update for the week of June 2. Lisa continues to go to school each morning until 12:50. She has been doing well keeping up with the classes. She also did well on her spelling test and finished her reading book. On Thursday, she went on a field trip with her class to Binghamton, NY to see the Mets play a baseball game. I went as a parent chaperone. We had a good time. Lisa continues to participate in therapies at school and in the outpatient setting. She is doing word puzzles, opposites, sentences, definitions, etc in speech, exercises in PT, and word activities and "thinking games" in OT. She had an appointment with the orthodontic doctor and she now has braces back on her teeth. She wasn't able to play her trumpet before because she had some of the brackets (that were loose) removed, so playing the trumpet was hard to do. Now she is practicing the trumpet again. She is planning to be in the community parades with the Middle School Band--carrying the banner since she doesn't know the music they are playing. She is excited to be in the parade, since the band will be wearing the new their uniforms. |
