July 29- Hi there--this is an update for the week of July 16 and the week of July 23. We have been to Philadelphia twice since Lisa's surgery. The first time the doctors wanted to see how she was doing and the second time they took the sutures out of her eye. Her eye is still fairly swollen and it is hard to tell if the surgery really corrected the eye lids as the doctors hoped it would do. We expect the swelling to continue a month or so after the surgery so we are still waiting to see the results. Lisa has finished her antibiotic and the heeling of her eye looks good. We need to return to Philly on August 8th to see the doctors again. Lisa had her two last days of school on July 20 and 21. She had some testing and did well with the tests she did for reading and math. She has been reading at home since school ended and is almost done another book. She is also working on her President project and has learned some interesting facts about the Presidents so far--the only President that was divorced, only one who was left-handed that served two terms etc. She has also been doing therapies both at school and as an outpatient. She is getting some homework in the therapies so she stays busy. She continues with OT, PT and speech. She is continuing to do community activities as well. This past week she attended Vacation Bible School at her church. She was able to run, play, praise, and learn just as the other children. Praise God she is able to do as much as she does--God sure did a miracle in her healing. Thank you for your continued support. July 15 - This week was a bit jumbled around. Lisa missed school both days because she had surgery on Wed. We went to Philadelphia on Tuesday to do preadmission work. Then we visited a lot of the nurses and therapist who took care of Lisa. It was great to see them and they were happy to see how well Lisa is doing. She did well with the surgery, which we hope lifts her upper right eye lid and tightens the lower right eye lid. It is too swollen still to see how much the surgery was able to accomplish. The doctor was pleased in the fact that he thought the surgery went well. Her eye was sutured shut to protect it as it starts to heal. We will need to go to Philly again next week to get the sutures removed. Lisa was able to do some of the therapies after she returned back to Wellsboro. She has a bit of pain in the eye. She is faithfully taking her antibiotic and eye ointment. She still does activities--even though she only has the one eye to rely upon.July 8 - Another week has past--where is the summer going? We had a busy week. We spent some time away as a family with Dave's family. We spent some of the week at a family cabin just relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. Lisa had a great time with cousins playing games, tubing and hanging out. Lisa did have school for the two days as scheduled. She finished the book she was reading and did some math. She was able to schedule therapies in the days she had school so she didn't miss them. She went to play volleyball for her OT and PT session. For speech, she is still working on vocabulary and word recognition. Next week, Lisa is planning her final surgery. We are going to Philadelphia for her to have the surgery on her right eye lids. She doesn't seem to think its any big thing--just something that she has to do. The surgery is planned for Wed--not sure of the time yet. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. July 1 - This has been another busy week. Lisa has done school and therapies. They keep her busy as well as the work she does at home. We do spelling, vocabulary, reading and a president project at home. She had to read a book for school in about a week. She finished it in time and got 100% of the test she took about it. She is improving but still isn't at her grade level in reading, so we encourage her to keep reading for practice. She is getting a bit faster and is recognizing more words. She also stays busy with activities of the family and community. She goes to her brother's swim meets and other events. It seems her hair is growing faster than I thought it would. She doesn't seem to mind her crew cut. The incision is also healing fast. |
