August 19- Lisa had a vacation this week, which she enjoyed. She went to visit family in North Carolina and went to the shore from Wed until Saturday. She went with her aunt, cousin and grandmother. They had a good time and nice visit with family. She did therapy in the beginning of the week so when didn't miss out on the work. She is still reading at home and doing Speech and Physical therapy as an outpatient. She is writing more, putting words into sentences, using grammar etc. She had her last day of Occupational Therapy this week. She will have OT in school when it starts but has finished the outpatient setting. School will be starting soon. She has bought notebooks etc. but says she isn't excited to go to school. I think she is just saying the teenager answer but is really looking forward to school, friends, and activities. August 12- Lisa is still continuing therapies. Some of the therapies are talking about finishing with Lisa since she has done so well and met most of the goals they had for her. We will know more next week. She has been doing homework for the therapies--writing some paragraphs in addition to the other paper they have her do. Lisa is still reading. She is reading faster and knowing more words--it makes me feel so good to see how she is improving. She said to me the other day that she wanted to read because she was at a good part in the book. I don't have to tell her to read hardly at all--she does it on her own! I think she is liking to read again. Praise God. We went to Philly on Tuesday. The doctor wasn't as pleased with her eye surgery as he hoped he would be. There is still swelling but he feels that she needs more surgery (one-two-maybe three) to do some more work to get her eye lids is better position. The bottom lid is turning in some causing the eye lashes to sometimes rub on her eye. The 2nd or 3rd surgery would be "touch-up" surgeries. Lisa doesn't seem to mind that she needs more surgeries--she just takes it all in stride. Lisa is going to visit some family in NC this next week. Her aunt, cousin and grandmother are also going. She is looking forward to the visit and we have arranged therapies so she will only miss one session. School will be starting before we know it. I have contacted the school personnel to set up a meeting for planning and confirming what Lisa will need in school and the details for her education. Our school starts August 29. God is so good--we see his blessings each day not only in Lisa, but also in our daily lives. August 5- Not a lot of different things to report. Lisa had lots of therapies this week. She continues to have OT, PT, and Speech. We have been starting to discuss how and what she will do in school--special classes or not etc. She is doing well but still a bit behind in reading, vocabulary and some spelling. She has read several Nancy Drew Mystery Books and has enjoyed them. This next Tuesday we head for Philly again. She still has some swelling of her eye, so it is hard to tell how well the surgery has really worked. Maybe we will know more after Tuesday. |
