What's Happening
ORIENTATION - If you would like to learn more about the United Methodist Church you
can go to umc.org, pick up a brochure about us on the Welcome Table to your
left as you enter the front doors of the church, or contact us at
845-855-5350 or email at pawlingumc@aol.com.
BAPTISM -
Baptism and communion are the two sacraments offered in the United Methodist
Church. We do infant baptism but also will baptize someone at any age
who has never been previously baptized. With baptism you become part
of our church family therefore baptism is taken seriously because the
congregation cannot maintain its part of the baptismal covenant if you do
not intend to keep coming to church. This is an important step in
one’s faith journey be that a newborn infant or an adult. If you are
seeking baptism for you or your child please contact Pastor Mark Allen at
845-855-5350 or email at pawlingumc@aol.com.
Exploring Membership Classes
- Even if you have been a member of a United Methodist Church all
your life, or you are new to this denomination you are welcome to come and
explore what it means to be a United Methodist. You do not need to
join after this class but you do need to take it prior to becoming a member.
Please contact the church office for details about the next class,
845-855-5350 or emails at
pawlingumc@aol.com.
Communion
- Communion is a holy sacrament which we celebrate with an open table.
Everyone is invited to participate. John Wesley, cofounder of
Methodism with his brother Charles, believed that communion and baptism were
two of the chief ways to receive God’s grace. Small children are
invited to come up with their parents and receive a blessing from the
pastor.
Confirmation
Class - Confirmation class begins in the fall and goes until May. It
is a time to prepare young people in the eighth grade or above to take on
for themselves the vows made on their behalf at baptism. We are using
an exciting interactive curriculum team taught by Pastor Mark and three
other active Christian adults who teach in the Sunday School program. View Calendar
Prayer group
- Our weekly prayer group is lead by Helen Thompson. We
meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30p.m. in the Sanctuary for about 20
minutes. This is a beautiful time to gather and pray for our world,
community, family, friends and ourselves. There is no curriculum and
nothing to prepare. Just come and be a partner in prayer with us.
