Welcome from the Pastor
Here
at The Pawling United Methodist Church, we believe in the power of God’s
transforming love, eternal salvation through a personal acceptance of, and
relationship with, Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit to guide
and strengthen us.
In 2009, The Pawling United Methodist Church will celebrate 200 years as
an agent of Christ’s love, compassion, and caring in Pawling. The church was
incorporated on January 28, 1809 and, following the example of Christ, has
served the community faithfully since then.
As United Methodists, we stress being in mission to God’s people wherever
there is need. Our thrift store is open on three days of the week and our
congregation is active within the community. Some of the mission activities
our members participate in include: The Pawling Community Resources and
Services Center, which helps residents of Pawling; Midnight Run, bringing
food and clothing to those who are homeless in New York City; Appalachia
Service Project, repairing homes in Appalachia. World mission is also
important to us. We have supported and participated in a project in Bolivia
through the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Spiritual growth and development is important to us. We offer Disciple
Bible Study, short-term studies, and Sunday school for toddlers through
adult. Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings during Sunday school and
worship. We have an active youth group that meets on Friday nights with an
emphasis on fun and fellowship. Music is also an important part of our
worship experience. We are blessed with a talented music director, Toni
LaPietra, and one of the finest organists and hand bell choir directors,
Richard Sills. We have choirs for adults, youth and children, and a rock
band that performs occasionally.
We are a fun-loving, spirit-filled congregation that enjoys many diverse
gatherings throughout the year. We celebrate the varied talents of our
congregation with a Cabaret Night and gather frequently to share a meal and
enjoy Christian fellowship.
We invite you to come and join our worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am
(9:30 am in July and August). Communion is served on the first Sunday of
each month and all are welcome. Our hearts, our minds, and our doors are
open waiting to welcome you.
May the grace of God be with you as you walk the faith journey.
Peace in Christ,
Pastor
