THE TYPE MUSIC WE PLAY First of all we could say that we play “Back Porch” music (rather than “Front Porch” music). We say that because we really play for the fun and enjoyment of just getting together and playing. Another reason is that we only get to practice a couple of times a month (unless we are getting ready for a gig). First of all, we play all the old time spirituals (“Send the Light”, “Keep on the Sunny Side”, “I’ll Fly Away”, “Angel Band”, “Turn Your Radio On”, “I am Using My Bible for a Roadmap”, “Sweet By & By”, “Unclouded Day”), and many more. We also play a lot of a lot of traditional mountain tunes (“Little Log Cabin in the Lane”, “Little Rosewood Casket”, “I am Weary Let Me Rest”, “Budded Roses”, “Maple on the Hill”, East Virginia”) and many more. In addition, we do a lot of traditional mountain fun songs (“Three Nights Experience”, “The Snuff Dipping Song, “Jenny Jenkins”, “Burglar Man”, “Just a Bowl of Butter Beans”), and others. Also, we do some old time country (“I am Crying My Heart Out Over You”, “Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss”, “Good Hearted Woman”, “I Walk the Line”, “Heartaches By the Numbers”), and lots more. We are not a bluegrass band, but we do some bluegrass numbers (“Crawdad Song”, Lonesome Road Blues”, “Little Mountain Church”, “Sleepy Eyed John”), and so on and so forth. If you can “hum it” we’ll try to play it! When we play we try to have fun, and the way we have fun is to have the audience join in and sing with us. This is easy, because if you have been around for a while you will most likely know every song we play!
