Creasey's Chapel History "On small knoll along
Highway 103 stands a small church with a great deal of history. For
some of the church, it means a large part of their lives and many good
memories. Even if you are not a member, Creasey’s Chapel may still
hold memories." Thus begins a history of Creasey’s Chapel
written in The Enterprise on December 3, 1969. According to this
article, before Creasey’s Chapel, the community worshiped at two
places. One place, "Old Bethlehem" was about three miles
away and another just across the road on the hill from where the
present church is.
The church, first known as
Southern Methodist was founded and organized by the man who gave the
chapel its name, the Reverend Walter Creasy. The exact date of
founding is not known but it is at least one-hundred years old.
The present church is modern
compared to the first church with its wood stove and plank seats.
Although still not a large church, there are beautiful pews, oil heat,
Sunday School rooms and beautiful wood paneling and ceiling.
Recent additions have been a bus
to pick up persons unable to drive to church, a small fellowship hall
and a playground for youngsters. Creasey’s Chapel has a wonderful
vision to bring the community into a loving fellowship.
Creasey’s has Worship on Sunday
mornings at 11:15 AM with Sunday School at 10:00 AM. There is Bible
Study on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 which starts with a potluck.
We welcome you to come and
experience a wonderful part of the history of Patrick County. Come
worship with us; come grow with us, come experience a time with the
Lord at Creasey’s Chapel in the beautiful foothills of the
Appalachia.
