Paris UMC

The Paris United Methodist Church was organized in March 1832 with 23 charter members. The first building was erected in 1846; a parsonage was also built. The second church was erected in 1881 and remodelled in 1926.

In September 1975, the congregation broke ground for an educational annex which was occupied the Fall of 1976.

The church celebrated it's 150th Birthday in December 1982.

The present parsonage, at 105 Seminary, was purchased in 1983.

The church is active in community projects sponsored by the Inter-Church Council and the Ministerial Alliance.

Paris United Methodist Church and Madison Grace United Methodist Church Charge are part of the Columbia/mexico District and the Missouri East Conference.

A visit to Paris is a historical treat.

The Presbyterian, Christian(Disciples of Christ) and the First Baptist Church have outstanding architecture. Paris is located about 15 miles from access to the Mark Twain Lake. The community has many historical buildings. A Fall visitor to Paris is rewarded with a beautifull vista of colored leaves. Four murals in the courthouse rotunda depict a 200 year peroid and were painted by a local artist, the late Doris Hill.

The only "Burr" & "Arch" covered bridge in Missouri is located near Paris. It was named for the Union Church, which stood near it. The bridge is 125 foot-long and 171/2 foot-wide. The bridge was built in 1871.
