RADICAL HOSPITALITY 101
November 8, 2009; 12:00 - 3:00 pm
"I was a stranger and you welcomed me."
--Matthew 25:35
Christian hospitality refers to the active desire to invite, welcome, receive, and care for those who are strangers so that they find a spiritual home and discover for themselves the unending richness of life in Christ. It describes a genuine love for others who are not yet a part of the faith community; an outward focus, a reaching out to those not yet known, a love that motivates church members to openness and adaptability, willingness to change behaviors in order to accommodate the needs and receive the talents of newcomers. Beyond intention, hospitality practices the gracious love of Christ, respects the dignity of others, and expresses God’s invitation to others not our own.
Radical means “drastically different from the ordinary practice, outside the normal,” and so it provokes practices that exceed expectations, that go the second mile, that take welcoming the stranger to the utmost. It means people offering all of themselves---their creativity, their abilities, and their energy---to offer the gracious invitation and reception of Christ to others.
This workshop is free and lunch will be provided.
Please attend. This workshop is for everyone!
Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.

LUNCH-TIME COMMUNITY PRAYER
UPDATE: Since Jan. 14, 2009, our Sanctuary has been open for prayer from 12 to 1:30pm. During this time period,182 plus people from our church and a few from the community have dropped in for prayer giving whatever time they've had available to present themselves before the Lord, offering praise, thanksgiving, petitions and intercession for others. A faithful group of men have set up the candle/altar and communion table each week. We thank each of you who've helped set-up and those who've been able to participate. We know each prayer offered in the name of the Father, Jesus Christ His Son and the Holy Spirit have been working mightily.
EFFECTIVE THIS WEEK our Wed. Lunch-Time Community Prayer is being suspended until further notice. As the holidays approach, we hope each of us will find a quiet place and avail ourselves of the wonderful opportunity to come into our Lord's presence and give thanks, confess our sins, and offer intercession for others. Sincerely in Christ, Dave Hoyt
If you wish to pray in the Sanctuary during office hours, please see Kay.

ALUMINUM RECYCLING

SEEDS FOR FAITH – New Ideas for Ministry
With the growth of our youth group and the fact some families are unable to transport their children to our activities; our youth ministry is in need of a church bus or van. According to recent research, church buses are safer and more efficient. Other groups in our church would also be able to use this bus. The cost of a new bus that transports up to 25 individuals costs approximately $60,000 not including insurance, taxes, and registration. Call Halecia at 898-1327 if you want more info?
We are looking for ideas on how to reach the children of our community and their families. Some of the ideas have been Community Cookout, Spring Festival, a Door To Door Campaign. Do you have any ideas on reaching to our neighbors? |
Preschool News
Operation Christmas Child Once again our preschool will be participating in Operation Christmas Child. We will be collecting shoe boxes through November 13th. If you are able to participate in this rewarding ministry, please fill up a plastic shoe box. Our understanding is the plastic boxes are ideal because they have many uses by the families who receive them. If you’d like more info or gift ideas please visit www.samaritanspurse.org. Thank you in advance for your participation in this wonderful ministry. |
Adult Sunday School Class
Please join us this Sunday as we start a new series in our Sunday school class. It's titled, "Is the Bible Holy?" We will look at the origins of the Bible, its trustworthiness and how we are to diligently study God's Word. This class is at 11am in the room 42 in the SE corner of the building. Everyone is welcome.

Dinner for Eight is Great!!
The Hospitality Team is bringing back the “Dinner for Eight” activity for everyone in the congregation. This is a great way for anyone who attends different Sunday services to become better acquainted with each other. Here’s a reminder on how this works if you did not attend the dinners in the beginning of this year. The program is to have individuals and/or couples sign up to go to dinner in groups of eight or less. One person in each group would volunteer to call the others and suggest a time and place for the first dinner. After that, the group would decide where and when they would dine next. Three alternatives are recommended: restaurant dining, someone’s home dining or in Fellowship Hall. Sign up sheets will be in Fellowship Hall today. For more info on this activity, you may contact Clay Bergdahl at 890-0474.
Fellowship Team Sign Up Calendar
Please note that there is a sign up calendar in Fellowship Hall near the Hospitality Board. You may choose any day or month you wish to help on this team. Sign up with your friends or find someone new to join you. Any questions, please call Carol Telesco at 898-1327 or e-mail her at ctelesco@cybermesa.com. Thanking you in advance for your help! |
THANK
