Oxford- University United Methodist Church welcomes children.

Our goal is to coordinate through children’s ministry the development of our children spiritually, physically, intellectually, and socially.  We are excited about our upcoming fall plans. Oxford-University UMC want children to know that they matter to God-by showing them they matter to us-so that one day others will matter to them.

Vacation Bible School was held June 6-10.  We traveled the Serengeti dessert in Africa looking for ways to know, talk, love, and worship God.

We are enjoying our summer by celebrating Terrific Tuesdays.  This is a fellowship time for Moms and kids to come together for fun and snacks.  They enjoy different activities such as swimming, skating, there is water slide fun, carnival games, movies, etc..

Back to school is the time we promote our Sunday School Classes.  Promotion Sunday will be August 14th.

We at Oxford-University celebrate Children’s Sabbath by involving children in every aspect of our Sunday Worship.  October 9th will be the date, we have a skit to be performed by our drama club, Joy choir and Praise choir will sing in our Sunday Worship.  Students and children will read scripture, serve as ushers, serve as greeters, pass out bulletins, etc….

We celebrate the fall with a Lavinrac Carnival.  Lavinrac is Carnival spelled backwards.  O-U celebrates with costume contest, games, food, and fellowship.  Typically, our carnival happens on Halloween weekend.

Advent is a time of preparation.  We celebrate advent by using an advent calendar and collecting money for different missions.

Christmas will be celebrated and honored with a LIVE NATIVITY SCENE displayed in the churchyard.  Plans for a two night  (Sunday night and Monday night) display using live animals and children.

Preschool children will celebrate Christmas with a Baby Jesus Christmas Party.  This time will be announced at a later date.

Other activities our children enjoy are playing an active role in our Angel Tree.  The families of Oxford-University get the whole family involved in giving at this time of year by providing families of Lafayette County with Christmas Gifts.  The children love to go shopping with Mom and Dad to pick out clothes and toys for those children whose Christmas would otherwise be bleak.

Other children’s activities include a Valentine Skating Party, Easter Egg Hunt, Musical Drama or Play, and various Mission Work.
