Pastor to Pew

I could have missed this newsletter. I mean, fall was just ticking away. The leaves were quietly and clearly changing. But time was also passing. And, all of a sudden, November is here and, well, the holidays are just around the corner. I don't want to be caught off-guard when it comes to the holidays, do you?

By that I'm not talking about getting ahead on the shopping or having all the Christmas cards addressed early. I am talking about having the best attitude for what is often the most busy and most hectic time of the year. I am talking about god having all our attention at a time when the worldly things scream to distract us from what is the true message of both Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So....ahead of all the craziness, let us, God's people, consider these suggestions which God gives for us all:

  • Listen to the Lord...devotions, music worship, Bible reading, prayer.

  • Live hospitably with others...always be invitational and welcoming

  • List the "to dos" of the season...stick to your list and don't over do.

  • Let love motivate your giving and sharing...offer yourself.

  • Less is more...don't over eat or over shop or go to any extremes: share, reuse, renew, re-gift, recycle.

  • Let love be the gift worth giving...the example of God shows us this wisdom

I'll bet that you can add to this list! Why don't you! To be intentional about the holidays in the best of ways is helpful and will make these times less stressful and more a blessing to ourselves and to those around us.

Only by God's Grace...

Pastor Aimee
