*The history of the
church is a long one, which has witnessed many events in the history of our
nation. Established in 1854,
Windsor UMC (then called the Methodist Episcopal Church of Windsor) was around
to see the beginning and end of the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation, two
World Wars, two wars in the Far East, and the unification in 1968 of The United
Brethren Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church making what we now know as
the United Methodist church.
Through it all, Windsor UMC continues to live up to The Mission of
the United Methodist Church, which is: Make disciples of Jesus Christ
* Windsor UMC affords the
opportunity for community groups to use the fellowship beneath our
sanctuary. Such groups include but
are not limited to: The Girl Scouts of America, Windsor Historical Society,
The Boy Scouts of America, and Alcoholics Anonymous.
*Windsor UMC has a Sunday
School class that begins at 10:30 on Sunday mornings after church.
Building Projects Since autumn of 2000, Windsor UMC has undertaken a
three-phase addition and remodeling project. With funds gathered from the congregation as well as a
$20,000 grant from the county, the church has built an addition to the back of
the sanctuary that is now being completed. The addition now holds a new furnace that is accompanied by
a new oil tank. The next two
phases of the project will include remodeling our restrooms and laying a new
floor to the fellowship hall.
*The United Methodist
Women have a chapter present at Windsor UMC. The UMW carry out many activities that contribute to the
life of the church like organizing potluck dinners, baking pies and cookies for
the raising of funds, and arranging meetings and picnics that offer true
Christian fellowship.
