More than 80 children are enrolled in Sunday School classes, which observed promotion Sunday in August. In addition, there are 60 youth and more than 50 adults participating in Sunday morning classes. This year the children's Sunday School classes will have a monthly mission focus. We hope to encourage children to respond to the needs of our community by offering to help other children.
Children's
Time is held during the 9:00 and the 11:00
service. Children are dismissed from service after the Children's
Message. The lessons include bible
study, music,
puppets
and crafts.
Nursery Care is
available during the 10:00 services in the Epworth and Aldersgate rooms for ages: infants-2 year olds.
High School Sunday School Class
As a teenage student, we sometimes feel ready to challenge what we have been taught about God as a child to see if a life of faith is relevant to where we are now. Maybe we don’t remember some of the stories we heard about Jesus or the many other people described in the 66 books that make up the Bible. Maybe what goes on in our groups of friends makes us wonder what we’re “supposed to believe or do/not do”. We know that life is just not always fair. As we try to make sense out of what’s happening around us and to us, our ideas about God and faith in God may need refreshing. The High School Sunday School class makes an attempt to fill a need for values and a faith that are reliable and relevant. Its focus is on life becoming fair. That is F.A.I.R, meaning Faith Applied in Reality. Everyone will be welcomed !

Weekday
Worship, Education and Activities
The Zone is
a midweek celebration of Christ for children. Each week at 6:30 p.m., following
Wednesday night Family Dinner
(5:45 pm), the children gather to participate in children's choir,
Christian arts and crafts and rehearsals for church musicals.
This time includes preparation for the annual Children's Christmas
Pageant. It's a wonderful time for children to be "renewed" in
the faith during the midweek.
AfterSchool
AfterSchool is
designed to provide a warm and safe environment for children
needing after school care until
6:00 pm. Children are picked up at their school by the church
bus at 2:45 pm and are delivered to the church.

Annual Worship,
Education and Activities
Advent Workshop - Sunday, November 21, is a workshop with
crafts, activities, and refreshments for all the children and
families of Orange United Methodist Church and their friends to prepare their
hearts and minds for the season of Advent.
Camp Chestnut
Ridge Day Camp is a one-week
day camp, in August, for children grades 1 - 5. The camp includes
Christian educations, swimming, arts and crafts, canoeing, cookouts
and archery.
Chapel Hill
Holiday Parade and Party - Saturday, December 4,
is a community-wide parade in which Orange Church sponsors
a float. Church members are invited to ride on or walk with
the float and pass out the story of the candy
cane to parade watchers. Children under the age of 7 years need to be accompanied
by an adult during the parade. We will carpool to the parade site and back to
the church. We join back together at the church after the parade for a luncheon.
All participants are asked to bring a beverage and dessert to share for the luncheon.
These items can be left in the church kitchen prior to the parade.
Children's
Christmas Eve Service is a special
event for our children of OUMC and for visitors. It is a shortened
worship service full of storytelling, singing and the praising
of our Savior, Baby Jesus !
Christmas Pageant - Sunday, Dec. 19, 6:30 p.m.
All information will be distributed as soon as it is available.
Confirmation
Confirmation Class 2004-2005 is a 32 week series of lessons designed
for youths who are in 6th grade or above. Youth will be encouraged
to take personal responsibility for their faith as they prepare
to make firm the vows made at their baptism. Classes will
be held in the Youth Suite from 9:30 - 10:30 on Sunday mornings.
Easter Workshop
and Egg Hunt is held on the
Saturday afternoon before Easter Weekend. Children learn about
Easter through an involved and symbolic crafts project. At the
end of the day, the children participate in a traditional Easter
egg hunt.
Heifer Project is a mission project in which
the children collect donations in small plastic "Ark" Banks.
The offering is then donated to the Heifer Project which raises
money to support the purchase of farm animals for poor villages
in third world countries.
Operation Christmas
Child (Sunday, Oct. 24) is a 3-week
mission which asks children to collect items, in a shoe box,
for disadvantaged
children. The boxes are sent around the world in time for Christmas
Day ! Kickoff is October 24 and collection of these boxes will end Nov.
21 so they can be transported to Charlotte for shipment. Please
leave boxes in Fellowship Hall.
Vacation Bible
School is always in June, usually
the first week after school is out. This is a special week in
the life of the church where the children enjoy an intense Biblical
learning experience. Bible study, arts and crafts, sports, music,
chapel time, puppet shows and drama are all a part of this GREAT
week. Click Media Gallery for pictures
from VBS 2004 .
