High School Sunday School Class
Sundays 10:00 – 11:00 with refreshments
Emmaus Room, also called the Youth Suite, downstairs in the education building under Fellowship Hall – Everyone is welcome! Membership is not required.
As a teenage student, we sometimes feel ready to challenge what we have been taught about God as a child to see if a life of faith is relevant to where we are now. Maybe we don’t remember some of the stories we heard about Jesus or the many other people described in the 66 books that make up the Bible. Maybe what goes on in our groups of friends makes us wonder what we’re “supposed to believe or do/not do”. We know that life is just not always fair. As we try to make sense out of what’s happening around us and to us, our ideas about God and faith in God may need refreshing.
The High School class makes an attempt to fill a need for values and a faith that are reliable and relevant. Its focus is on life becoming fair. That is F.A.I.R, meaning Faith Applied in Reality.

Class topics vary throughout the school year and are frequently adapted to current events and issues. Lessons are typically conducted in the manner of a forum filled with questions, answers, debates and dialog. Parts of the library of the 66 books of the Bible are used as a reference. Students should bring both their brain and their heart to class, need to respect the opinions of others and should expect that they will be warmly welcomed, listened to, and cared for no matter where they happen to be spiritually. Class is a laboratory for learning that life that God gives really is F.A.I.R.
Lesson topics that don’t draw upon current events and issues are drawn from many of these areas:
- Relationships (friendships, conflict, communication, discrimination,
affirmation, gossip, revenge, forgiveness)
- Refuge (prayer, stress, Sabbath, quiet time, joy, humor,
music)
- Do something! (goals, leadership, reaching out, sacrifice,
protesting, racial harmony, world citizenship)
- Loving relationships (dating, marriage, divorce, loneliness,
adultery, homosexuality, betrayal, sexism)
- Beliefs (values, doubts, attitude, integrity, role modeling,
death, meaning, creeds, witnessing)
- Religions (Islam, Judaism, Christianity, many others)
- The Bible library (who wrote what, topic pointers, parables,
difficult passages, favorite passages, how to study)
- Debates (capital punishment, suicide, homosexuality, guns,
abortion, alcohol, quoted opinions, more)
- Special days, seasons (Easter & Lent, Advent & Christmas,
Mothers & Fathers Days, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving, more)
