Trip Report: Kissy Strategy Meeting
On Thursday February 9, there was a Kissy Strategy meeting at the UM Office in Freetown. Representatives from GBGM, the hospital, the medical board, the church and Operation Classroom/Doctor were in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to set a common vision of the UM Kissy General Hospital should be. After much discussion the decision was made to pursue funding for the construction of a MOTHER-CHILD BLOCK, which would house the maternity and child ward and the nutrition unit. It would only center on these three areas with the possibility of a third floor, which would be for conference rooms for the other mother-child programs. Only programs related to the mother-child program will be included in this building.
The goal is, if funding is available, to begin construction in 2010. Operation Classroom/Doctor was asked and agreed to develop a master plan and preliminary plans for the Mother-Child Block by May 1, 2008. Included in the plan will be the development of a transitional plan to care for the programs that will be displaced by the construction. All plans will be reviewed and approved by the medical board of the conference.
