Malnutrition is real among children in Sierra Leone. It has been stated that malnutrition in Sierra Leone is among the highest in the world. The UMC Hospital at Kissy has a program where severely malnourished children are cared for and fed. At the same time the mothers are taught how to use local foods in a high protein diet.
The United Methodist Women of South Indiana are sponsoring a program to get 2007 boxes of dried/powdered milk in 2007. Dried/powdered milk is made into yogurt and is an important ingredient in their diet. You can assist in helping the malnourished child find heath by providing one or more boxes of dried/powdered milk and send it to the Lapel warehouse. Please send $1.00 for each box of dried/powdered milk to help defray the cost of shipping to the OC office.
