The following letter was received from Gerry Protzman, Oologah UMC's delegate to the
Annual Conference. The 2005 Conference was held in Oklahoma City, May 29-June 2. The 2005 Oklahoma Annual Methodist Conference is
finished for another year. Ben is going to remain with us another year. Yeah!Several goals were established for Oklahoma churches. They were:
1. A 5% increase in church school (Sunday school) and worship attendance. 2. New and satellite churches begun by large churches
3. Finishing the Wesley Foundation building at Langston University.
4. Election of Ambassador to Circle of Care by each church at charge conference.
5. New and special emphasis on the ministry to older adults and youth director's leadership training. 6. Every church is being asked to identify and encourage a family that
would provide a foster home.
I'm proud to have been a representative to this conference for you, and to have heard the stories about changed lives because of
the ministries of the UMC. One boy, a youth, who had a very troubled past He would have become a gang member if he had not been invited and attended a church "after-school' program. He is now a
high school graduate and is attending college.
Another moving story was about a woman whose life was affected by the Kairos outside ministry program. She had not attended church in 18 years, but now is active in the Kairos ministry. That's only two of the many inspiring stories. We, as United Methodists, participated in these changed lives by our contributions and the apportionment of our church. By the way we can be proud
of 100% payment of our apportionment I always leave Annual Conference motivated and blessed. You can too. Plan to attend some sessions of the Annual Conference which will be held in
Tulsa next year. Gerry Protzman |
