Our Future includes a New Home

Our church members have purchased fifteen  acres of land on HW169 South of Oologah. Volunteers have invested many hours in cleaning and clearing shrub and brush from the property as well as installing electricity to facilitate further work.
The site recently hosted the "Pumpkin Patch" and a tent revival.
Our fiture plans include building a new church home on the new property.

Letting people know we are coming

Pumpkins come to the

This is the "Pumpkin Patch" on our new property where church volunteers sold pumpkins to add to the building fund but more  importantly played host to over 1500 school children taking them on hay rides and teaching them more than they thought they would ever know about pumpkins.

A short history of our church.

The Oologah United Methodist Church dates back to June 18,1895, when the Board of Home Missions and Church Extension of the Methodist Episcopal Church, 1701 Anchor Street, Phialdelphia,  Pennsylvania, deeded to the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Board of Extension, Oklahoma Annual Conference, County of Cherokee Nations and State of Indian Territory, one church building, size 24 X 40, built by  B.L.Price, Architect. The first Pastor was Wallace I. Torbett, a circuit pastor.
Trustees were Henry Cloud, M.Patrick, and Fanny Patrick. Later, Lot 4 was purdhased, and Lot 1 and 2 were deeded to the church  by Mary Francic Bell, from the L.B.Bell estate.

Early in 1920 the church moved to its present location, Lot 14, Block 25. This was accomplished through the purchase of the present sanctuary from the Presbyterian Church. The board of trustees were O.A.McClary, J.C.Russell, E.F.Young, C.R.Bowder, and E.L.Denny.

The church became the Oologah United Methodist Church upon unification of the Evangelical United Brethern Church and the Methodist Church in 1968.

In 1971, under the leadership of Pastor Jack  Jordan, a building fund was started. In March 1975, the building committee with Bill Burkes, Chairman: Alva Lewis, Walter McArthur, Howard Denegar, and Perry Whipple reccommended that an educational building be  constructed and the sanctuary be completely refurbished. This plan was approved by the Charge Conference on April 13, 1975. Ground breakin ceremony was held in May 1975, and construction of the  new educational building began. Dr. James Leach was pastor. When the sanctuary was completely renewed and the educational building completed the church was consecrated to the Lord. The church has  grown and prospered and is serving the community as a spiritual center.
