In the winter of 1896-97 a revival meeting held by Rev. E.C.
Norman brought about the organization of the Oolitic Methodist
Episcopal Church.

The church was organized in Oolitic's first school, which occupies
the site where the Telephone Exchange building and Filling Station
now stand.

W.B. Farmer, then a student at Indiana University, came and
conducted regular services, holding the organization together until
a permanent place of worship could be established.

On March 31, 1899, John R. Walsh, owner and president of the
Bedford Quarries Company, donated a lot in the town of Oolitic
for the purpose of erecting a building for ministerial and religious
services. A part of this lot was sold to help pay for the building of
the church.
