| Odebolt
celebrated its 125th anniversary in June 2002 with the annual Creek Days
festival. A Quasquisentennial quilt, banquets, class reunions, a parade,
markets, carnival rides, entertainment, a talent show, and a church
service followed by tractor pulls and the demolition derby comprised the
weekend's events. Read all about it on the Odebolt
web site. Odebolt was once known as the "popcorn center of the world," with the Jolly Time and Cracker Jack popcorn companies founded here. The original field of the Jolly Time popcorn is found a few miles north of town near the Prairie Pedlar themed gardens. Take a respite and visit the gardens when you're nearby - they're grand. |

The
origins of the town's name, the only "Odebolt" in the
United States, are somewhat in dispute. All agree it was named for
the creek, and speculation about the creek's name is found in the Odebolt
History Pages and much more about the town here. An expanded history of the Odebolt United Methodist Church and its ties to four rural congregations, written for the church's centennial in 1977, is found here. |
