Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) is a required committee within the United Methodist Church, receiving its authority from the “Book of Discipline”. The committee serves as an important link between pastor and staff of FUMC: Oakhurst and the congregation at large. It counsels the Pastor and staff to insure an effective ministry is available to the Church. By meeting regularly with the pastor, and with support staff as needed, the committee continually develops and maintains an open line of communication that contributes to the health and vitality of our church.
The committee is also responsible for specific administrative tasks such as the development and approval of staff job descriptions, pastor and staff evaluation, the ongoing identification of staffing needs of the church, and support of those within the congregation pursuing lay speaking, diaconal and clergy positions.
The SPRC seeks to promote good relationships between the women and men who serve on the church staff and the members and friends of our congregation, and thus support the mission of Oakhurst to proclaim the Good News of God’s Loving Presence.
The ongoing activities of the Oakhurst SPRC include the following: * Meet regularly with Pastor Eble to develop and monitor the goals that guide his work at FUMC:Oakhurst; * Support Pastor Eble by listening to his joys, concerns, and church issues; * Develop and maintain job descriptions for the ordained and lay staff members; * Conduct annual evaluations of the work of the pastor and staff members and suggesting opportunities for development and growth; * Recommend annually to the Finance Committee the salaries to be paid to the pastor and lay members of the staff; * Make annual recommendations to the District Superintendent on clergy appointment/reappointment; * Report to the Church Council; * Focus attention on the staffing needs to support the missions of Family and Youth Ministries, with special attention given to the position of a Coordinator of Christian Education; * Reflect the congregation's spirit, concerns, and satisfactions to the pastor and, as appropriate, to the other members of the staff.
Your SPRC invites you to share your concerns, satisfactions, wishes, and recommendations via e-mail. Please click on one of the underlined names to do so. Your message will be prayerfully considered. We respect your privacy, and if you so request your name and e-mail address will be removed from your message prior to sharing it with committee members. Each of SPRC members certainly welcomes your feedback and will enjoy discussing with you issues of mutual concern.
