News and  Useful Web Links for Lay Speakers

The General Conference now requires that all Local Lay Speakers take a REFRESHER course at least once every three years  or ...  a minimum of 4 hours credit of a NYAC approved1 advanced Lay Speaker Workshop(s).
This is a new requirement in the GBOD, and consequently, it will require new training materials and course development.
We expect to see new materials to become available to us to design course content and obtain/train leaders starting in April or May - and plan to offer refresher courses in the spring and fall.   Please continue to monitor this web site and the Basic and Advanced Pages for course schedules.

CERTIFIED LAY SPEAKERS are required to take at least 1 full credit2  (10 hours) of Advance Class Workshops every three years ... we encourage you, however, to attend any of the annual training events that will help to make you more effective in your ministry, mission, and leadership.

CERTIFIED LAY MINISTERS : This is a response to the practice of assigning laypersons to local churches — a practice that is already in place now has disciplinary support ....  a page will be added to this web site at a future date.

Workshops in the Conference:

1 Lay Speakers may attend, and receive credit, at the classes and workshops that  are approved by the NY conference committee on lay speaking.

WORKSHOP CREDIT:

One, four-hour classroom refresher (LOCAL) and one, full-credit (CERTIFIED) every three years is the minimal  classroom requirement.  We suggest , however, that to be effective, Lay Speakers continue their education and enhancing their skills by attending a variety of workshops that are offered around the district each year.

2FULL or PARTIAL CREDIT:    Since an approved advance workshop must have at least ten hours of classroom instruction,  some classes are worth a full-day-credit ... and some are worth partial-day-credit (partial credit classes require attendance at more than one event during a rolling 3-year period).

RECORD KEEPING:     Please keep record of the conference-approved workshops that you attend and include them on your Annual Lay Speaker Report.

Welcome NYAC Lay Speakers!    All believers are called to ministry - This site has been established  to communicate opportunities for you to obtain training, coaching, and practice - so that you may be more effective in personal ministry, mission, and leadership.
