To sponsor a Pilgrim is the first act of agape that the Pilgrim will experience on a Walk to Emmaus weekend. Sponsorship is a very serious undertaking since, in sponsoring, we agree to not only support the Pilgrim before and during the weekend by prayer and other activities, but will also support the family at home while the Pilgrim is at the weekend. Consequently, sponsoring someone for a Walk weekend should be done prayerfully and with a generous heart. Afterall, someone did the same for you while you were attending your weekend.

1. Location: 2008 Walks will be held at the Manzano Mountain Retreat Center near Tajique, NM (March '08) and at the Sacred Heart Retreat Center near Gallup, NM. (October '08)

2. Arrival: Pilgrims should arrive for checkin NO LATER THAN 6:30 PM on Thursday evening of the weekend.

3. Costs: All Walks will cost $150.00 per Pilgrim for the three days and nights, covering all room and meals.. The Sponsor should use discretion to evaluate whether or not the Pilgrim can afford the entire costs or will need assistance from the Sponsor, the Sponsor's Gathering and/or the Board of Directors.

4. Forms: It is the Sponsor's responsibility to submit each of the following forms by US Mail together with appropriate payment as soon as possible, but no later than 2 weeks in advance of the weekend. A Pilgrim will NOT be registered until ALL forms and payment are received by the Emmaus Registrar at: Emmaus Registrar, PO Box 3624, Albuquerque, NM 87190.The forms needed are: 1. The Pilgrim Application/Sponsor Form (signed by Pilgrim, Sponsor, and Pastor) and, if needed, 2. a Scholarship application for Board of Director's funds (1/3 maximum).

5. A Walk requires at least 20 pre-paid registrations to proceed with a weekend. A maximum of 36 Pilgrims can fill a weekend. Consequently, if fewer than 20 applications are received by the Registrar, the weekend may be postponed and if more than 36 applications are received, a waiting list, based upon postmark, will be formed in anticipation of filling the next Walk. Typically, there will be a Men's weekend in advance of a Women's weekend, to encourage couples to share in the Emmaus experience. For 2008, four Walks are planned: a Men's and Women's weekend in both March and October.
