For Your Information

WE WELCOME TO OUR CHURCH FAMILY:

Margaret Anderson, 763 Mountain Avenue, New Providence,    NJ 07974

We are thankful to God for the life of this friend.  Don’t forget to offer your own personal word of welcome and support to the newest member of our church family.

Déjà vu!  Video and Audio Recordings of our worship services are yours for the borrowing and are in the Small Meeting Room (across from the Church Office).  Feel free to sign out a tape for yourself, a shut-in or a neighbor.

The December “Circuit Rider”, (our newsletter), will be ready on Sunday, November 29th.  Any articles for the newsletter are due on Friday,  November 20th and should be put in the “Circuit Rider” mailbox in the Small Meeting Room (across from the church office).  If you have any prayer concerns for the “Getting Personal” section please tell Charlie or call the church office.  PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ARTICLES ON THE SECRETARY’S DESK.  THANKS!

ALSO, we’re on the Web in 2 places!  (Place 1) On Youtube.com, we have 2 three-minute videos—a relaxing video of our church and a quick tour of what's behind our doors.  Here’s how to find the 2 videos:  Using your internet browser (such as Internet Explorer or Foxfire) type YouTube.com in the web address box.  Then, type npumc1441 in the search box, and click on either tiny picture.  Clicking the blue npumc1441 gets you to our “Channel” page—which contains other interesting information (and the ibiubuok link to Charlie’s trains—sorry, I couldn’t help it).  (Place 2) Our church website has info about our church groups, ministries, calendar of events, as well as other interesting links.  Here’s how to reach it:  Using your internet browser, EITHER type in web address box http://www.gbgm-umc.org/npumcnj/ OR type in the search box “New Providence United Methodist Church New Jersey”.  Clicking the blue words New Providence United Methodist Church gets you to our website.

Thanksgiving Service will be on Monday, November 23rd at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m.  They are asking everyone who attends to please bring a plate of refreshments (cookies, brownies, etc.).

Re-Employment Seminar:  Monday, November 16, 2009, 7:30 p.m. Topic:  Salary Negotiations.  Few people have much experience negotiating salary in their career.  As a result, after an extensive job search, most candidates are at a disadvantage when it comes time to negotiate their new salary.  This program will attempt to address this problem.  Topics include base salary vs. total compensation package, defining salary expectations, communicating your value and demonstrating confidence, how to answer the salary question, other questioning strategies, and a comprehensive summary of items that may be negotiated.

Operation Candy/Cookie for 2009.  The Christmas season is fast approaching and the Woman’s Club of New Providence of the GFWC is again preparing to pack decorated coffee cans with some hard candy (filler for the holes) and delicious home-baked cookies (no nuts, please).  The members would greatly appreciate your participating in this yearly project for the needy.  Recipients include New Providence’s CSA; St. Joseph Social Center in Elizabeth, and possibly St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark.  Bake ahead of time and freeze.  Then bring them to the NP Senior Center on Monday, December 7th between 12:30-3:30 p.m., or call Claire Stang beforehand and she will pick up your donation.  Coffee cans (the “used to be 1 lb. size”) are always needed and Claire will be happy to take them from you.  Thank you in advance for your support.  God bless you all.   Claire

Wanted: Sunday Morning Refreshment Hosts.  Have you noticed that the “After Worship Refreshment Sign-up Sheet” is a bit…empty?  How about signing-up for a Sunday or 2?  (It’s located by the New Room entrance.) Being a Refreshment Host/Hostess is not difficult AND we even have a small supply of napkins, table cloths, juice, coffee and treats that can be used if you don’t feel comfortable baking, or buying store-bought coffee-cakes—or for whatever reason, to make it as easy as possible.  (Directions for coffee making are even posted inside one of the cabinet doors.)  You might try teaming-up with a church friend to split the responsibilities.  By doing so, you’ll not only provide us with a tasty snack BUT you may be the one who encourages a new family to stick around and say, “this is the friendliest church we have ever attended.”  We appreciate your “Ministry of Hospitality”!  Thanks.

Food Pantry: Thanksgiving is coming all too soon and it is time to think of the many blessings we have been given and to think of others who are not so fortunate.   Here is a list of some items to help you – cereal, oatmeal, toaster pastries, canned ham, canned vegetables, stuffing mix, mashed potato mix, canned gravy, canned cranberries, canned fruit, juice, pasta, rice, tuna, macaroni & cheese, chili, stews, meaty soups, peanut butter & jelly.  Baby food is always needed and much appreciated.  Help fight against hunger by leaving your food donations on the Food Pantry shelves located in Cabinet #3 in the lower hallway.

A 2010 Directory of Church Members and Friends will be printed during the 2nd week in January—and will be included with your February newsletter.  Please check your current Directory to make sure we have correctly listed your address, phone number AND that we haven’t forgotten any children who live at home. Also, make sure we have your correct email address—especially since more of your friends may be communicating that way.  If you have any corrections, please call the church office (908-464-5535) before the 2nd week in January.  Thanks for your Directory Assistance
