JANE DUNN—NCJ HEALTH TEAM CONSULTANT

JANE DUNN, a veteran of over 12 UMVIM experiences, is the Health Care Consultant for North Central Jurisdiction medical teams and individual volunteers being placed in medical positions. DUNN, a masters-prepared registered nurse has worked for over 30 years in medical / surgical settings, as a health administrator, a nursing professor and in psychiatric care.

JANE and her husband, RICHARD, have led health teams to Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama. They have also volunteered as individuals in Belize and served on construction teams in Chile and the Louisiana Gulf Coast. She did consulting with the GBGM missionary, IRENE MPARUTSA on health care issues in while on a mission team in Cambodia. Early in her career, JANE was employed for two years by Reynolds Metals Company as co-manager of an employee hospital in a bush mining camp in Kwakwani, Guyana.

JANE DUNN checks blood pressures on a recent
medical UMVIM trip to Panama.

JANE hopes to use knowledge gained from her volunteer experiences to assist health teams and their leaders with preparation, and facilitate growth of UMVIM health teams within the Jurisdiction. The position officially started in 2007 and is unsalaried except for an allocation to cover office and travel expense. Jane is truly “volunteering” her time to enrich the lives of others!

Because of her expertise and willingness, JANE has been employed by the Mission Volunteer unit of Global Ministries to edit and maintain a blog for healthcare volunteers nation-wide. She is also called upon to give health care advice and training to Individual Volunteers when the training sessions are in the North Central Jurisdiction.

JANE AND RICHARD live in Glen Ellyn, IL. You may reach JANE at her home phone, 630-790-4387 or by sending an e-mail to richjane@ameritech.net.

We thank JANE for offering her services in this way and feel that under her guidance she will enable the number of medical teams and medical professionals going out of this Jurisdiction to increase dramatically in the future!

Medical Team Consultation

It’s All about Community Based Primary Health Care (CBPHC)

DR. ROGER BOE has been a dedicated proponent of the Community Based Primary Health Care model for many years and has been a key participant and workshop leader in many of the past Rx Consultations.
Thank You, ROGER!
After a very successful 2009 event, the Rx Consultation has been put to rest for another year! We would like to thank our guests, workshop leaders, other presenters, and hosts for a wonderful weekend of connecting and sharing! The workshops were informative and well received and there was an impressive number of quality displays to view. There were four displays on water purification and sanitation alone!

The following guests came to our Jurisdiction to help inspire us to take principals of CBPHC with us on all of our teams whether a medical mission or otherwise:

DR. ROGER BOE, ID; DR. CHERIAN THOMAS,
BARBARA STONE and LANDON TAYLOR, GBGM;
and CONNIE GATES, Jamkhed representative.

These presenters from the NCJ are to be commended on the great work that they are doing throughout the world and we appreciate the sharing of their expertise and field lessons learned :

JANE DUNN and her PANAMA MEDICAL TEAM (N IL and W MI) along with Panama UMVIM coordinator, RHETT THOMPSON; DR. MARK SCHROEDER and DR. CURT JOHNSON, WI ; DEE STICKLEY-MINER, W OH; DR. DOYLE ELLIS, MARILYN GRIFFITH AND DONALD GRIFFITH all of S IND; and DEANNA HAWKINS, MN. Several people took the UMVIM Team Leader training with LORNA JOST.

Many participants visited the annual Tulip Festival in nearby Holland, MI
We enjoyed the devotions, travelogues and country information from PASTOR DANIEL DUNCAN, Teresa MILLER AND VALERIE MOSSMAN-CELESTIN of W MI and LARRY CALDERON HURTADO, UMVIM coordinator, Nicaragua. The concert by “Voices 4 Praise” helped finish Saturday on the right note!

A special THANK YOU to BRONWEN & BARRY KRAM, our awesome hosts for the weekend at Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven, MI! What a wonderful site for this event!
